MEDIA ADVISORY: Rep. Haler to host district “coffees” to discuss state budget, upcoming special session and higher education issues

Rep. Larry Haler, R-Richland, will host two district “coffees” with constituents in November.

Haler, who serves on the budget-writing House Ways and Means Committee and is the ranking Republican on the House Higher Education Committee, said the state’s projected budget shortfall and the upcoming special session are topics that will be covered during the community events.  He also expects higher education issues and private-sector job creation to be areas of interest as well.

“While much of the focus is on the state’s budget, we can’t forget that people need jobs,” Haler said.  “When folks are back to work and more jobs are created, the state will have more revenue to provide the services the public expects.

“I’ve spent several days travelling around the 8th Legislative District speaking with small business owners and community leaders to gather ideas about how we can get Washington working again,” Haler continued.  “I am hopeful that we can take some of these ideas to my Olympia colleagues and turn them into legislative proposals to help spur economic growth in our state.

“However, I also know that there are other issues the public is concerned about.  I hope people show up to my district coffees ready to participate, to express ideas, ask questions and engage in constructive debate on the economy, jobs, education, or any other topic of interest.”

Haler’s first community coffee event will be Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m. in the CSA Building Lobby at 719 Jadwin Ave. in Richland.

His second event will be on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the same location.

All 8th Legislative District residents are invited and encouraged to attend.
