Eighth District legislators to hold town meetings March 12

The 8th District’s state legislative team – Sen. Jerome Delvin and Reps. Larry Haler and Brad Klippert – will host town hall meetings Sat., March 12, at four locations in Benton County.

The lawmakers will present an overview of the issues and accomplishments of the 2011 Legislature, which recently passed the mid-way point of the scheduled 105-day session. Following their presentations, the legislators will take questions and comments from the audience. There also will be time afterward for people to talk with their lawmakers individually.

“There’s nothing more essential than ensuring that the people we represent have an open door to let us know how they feel about the issues we’re dealing with in Olympia,” said Haler, R-Richland, who is serving his fourth term in the House. “We have a lot to talk about, and I welcome the opportunity to hear our constituents’ thoughts and comments first-hand.”

“The open-forum setting provides a face-to-face opportunity for informal and candid give-and-take discussion,” said Delvin, R-Richland, who served five terms in the House and is in his third term in the Senate. “It will be good to listen to the views of our community, and then bring those concerns back to Olympia.”

“Holding in-district town meetings where citizens can voice their opinions is one of the most important outreach services we can offer as legislators,” added Klippert, a second-term Republican from Kennewick. “The personal exchanges with constituents are a part of the job that I always look forward to and welcome.”
