House votes to improve I-937 by declaring hydropower as ‘renewable’ resource

The House of Representatives today voted to join every other state in the union to include hydropower as a renewable energy source.
Rep. Larry Haler, R-Richland, moved an amendment to Engrossed Second Substitute Senate Bill 5840 during floor action today that was approved by the House.
Haler has released the following statement:
“Washington finally acknowledges hydropower as one of the cleanest, most environmentally-friendly sources of energy on the planet.
“Washington is, and will continue to be, a leader in the production of clean, renewable hydropower. Consumers and employers will benefit from affordable rates and an abundance of reliable energy.
“The state’s renewable energy goals for the next decade are now within reasonable reach.”
