Rep. Haler appointed to Higher Education Committee

Eastern Washington and the Tri-Cities gained a strong voice in matters concerning the state’s colleges, universities and students as Rep. Larry Haler, R-Richland, was appointed today to serve on the House Higher Education Committee.
“Being on the Higher Education committee is something I wanted,” Haler said. “With the Tri-Cities’ branch of the Washington State University and Columbia Basin College, we have a proud tradition and heritage of educating our students. I’m excited to bring a local perspective to the issues we’ll be dealing with on the committee.”
Haler also serves on the Education Appropriations Committee, the Technology, Energy and Communications Committee, and as the ranking Republican on the Early Learning and Children’s Services Committee.
“My committee assignments are very indicative of our region’s emphasis on education, energy and technology,” said Haler, who has worked in the nuclear industry for over 34 years. “I’m one of the lucky ones. I get to take practical, real world experience and apply it to finding solutions to the issues we face on a daily basis.”
The 2009 legislative session is in its third week. The 105-day session is scheduled to end April 26.
